Finally on the beach soaking up the sun and then comes the rain. It can ruin your mood and deflate your spirit. Just when you get some time off and want to feel the sand with your toes…. and a sprinkle turns into a deluge.

Here are some things to consider during the planning of your vacation:

Am I going to tropical locales during hurricane season? Florida is always a potential target of tropical storms June 1- October 31. Other places like Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and various Caribbean islands get hit frequently too. Statistically September is the worst month for severe hurricanes so keep that in mind. Should that keep you home? No. Just be aware and purchase travel insurance.

If you are flying during the summer months in the south part of the US, consider taking an early flight. Thunderstorms tend to develop in the afternoon and could delay flights and cause missing connections. Plus it isn’t as fun to try to balance all your luggage to a rental car or shuttle in the rain.
